Obituary for A. Marguerite (Comeau) Bennett

BENNETT, Alice Marguerite (June 11, 1924 - January 20, 2023)

Surrounded by the love of her family, (Alice) Marguerite Bennett passed away on January 20, 2023. Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Jack Bennett (2001). She was the loving mother of Jane (Michael Bertleff) and Brian (Lynda Vandemaele), grandmother of Sean Bertleff (Sherry) and Gillian Newkirk (Jon) and Alison Bennett-Vranic (John Vranic) and Brett Bennett, great-grandmother of Meghan Newkirk and Keira Bertleff and Chloe Newkirk. Marguerite was very involved in the lives of her family and extended family; they brought her great joy.

Marguerite was born and raised in Springhill, Nova Scotia. She was the second of five children born to John and Alice Comeau. Her siblings Mary King, Olive Buffett and John Comeau predeceased her. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Gunning. Marguerite was much loved by her nieces and nephew. She remained in close contact with the members of her family. They shared many happy times and family milestones.

After high school, Marguerite left home to pursue an education in Business. She met and married Flying Officer, Jack Bennett in February 1945. When the war ended, they moved to Jack’s hometown of Tillsonburg, Ontario. Marguerite and Jack raised their family while developing the family business, Bennett Stationery. Over the years, they were involved in many projects in the community that they loved. Marguerite enjoyed time spent with friends, travel and especially time with family.

Cremation has taken place. Friends, neighbours, and relatives are invited to attend a public visitation on Saturday, April 15th, 2023, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 p.m., by Rev. Pat Cook, Voluntary Associate Minister at St. Paul’s United Church. A private inurnment will take place on Monday, April 17th in the Bennett family plot at Tillsonburg Cemetery.
