Obituary for Andre Achiel M. VanHove

Passed away, suddenly but peacefully, at Maple Manor, Tillsonburg on Wednesday, September 4th, 2019, Andre “Andy” Achiel M. VanHove, at the age of 92. Andy was born in Stekene, East Flanders, Belgium; at the age of 25, in 1952 and following World War II, he emigrated to Canada by himself in an adventurous spirit, on a cargo ship. Andy was a Belgian Army Veteran, having fought for his country in World War II as a Resistance Fighter. In Canada, Andy farmed tobacco at the family farm in Langton for many years. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #125, Delhi and he enjoyed his time as a member of the Langton Merrymakers. Predeceased by his much-loved wife, Simonne (Casier) Van Hove (Dec. 9, 2016). Much loved father to Shirley and Frank Evens, of Tillsonburg. Special Grandpa to: Michael (Helen), and their children Emily and Bryce; Lori and her daughter Amy; Greg and his children Hannah and Luke. Also survived by one sister-in-law Yvonne VanHove in Belgium and by his close special friends, Ron and Gay Evens, of Tillsonburg. Predeceased by two brothers Romaine and Achiel and by one sister Lydia. Survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins in Belgium.

In keeping with Andy’s wishes, a private family gathering, and Funeral Liturgical Service will be held in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Chapel, 262 Broadway Street, Tillsonburg by Rev. Fr. John Pirt, of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Tillsonburg. Interment will take place in the Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery, Langton. Memorial Donations to the “Camp Trillium- Rainbow Lake” or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the Maurice J.
