Obituary for Andrew "Andy" Zei

ZEI, Andrew (November 24, 1925 – April 23, 2022)

Andrew Zei of Tillsonburg passed away, peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital in his 97th year. Born in Szakadat, Hungary son of the late Peter Zei (1971) and the late Katherine (Müller) Zei (1981). Andrew is the much-loved husband of 71 years (on this Thursday) of Rosina (Seitz) Zei. Loved and proud loving father of John (Mary) Zei and their children: Lori (Jeremy), Angela (Andy) and their new baby-twins Jonathan and Michael, John Zei (Jennifer) and their children: Violet and Alexander and a daughter Rosemary (Carey) Hahn and their children: Anthony (Katie)and their children: Cavan, Patrick, Vivian; Kate (Denis) and their children: Morgan, Dylan, Galen and Michael Hahn and a daughter Elizabeth Zei. “Andy” is survived by his sister: Elizabeth Schweitzer (late John) (1969) of Delhi and a sister-in-law Julianna Zei of Tillsonburg and nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by a brother Peter Zei (1969) and in-laws Peter Seitz (1966) and Katherine Seitz (1988). Andrew immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of three. Andrew has been involved in the tobacco industry, in Norfolk County, for more than six decades taking over from his father. Andrew served on the Ontario Flue-Cured Tobacco Growers Marketing Board as a Director, and Committeeman for many years. Proud member of the O.F.A. Andrew was a distinguished Knights of Columbus. He is one of the few remaining Charter Member of the St. Mary’s KofC #3212. He also became a Charter Member of the Sacred Heart Council #11727, Langton. Andy is P.G.K. of St. Mary’s Council #3212 and former District Deputy, as well. Andy was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Langton. He served his community as a member of the St. Ladislaus R.C. Cemetery Board, a longtime Shareholder of the Delhi District German Home and a Charter Member of the Delhi Tobacco Museum. Andy sincerely appreciated being inducted into the Norfolk County Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2016.

The family requests everyone bring and wear their mask. In Celebration of Andy’s life and faith, a Public Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 24 Albert St., Langton, by Rev. Fr. Al Dufraimont. Interment follows in the St. Ladislaus R.C. Cemetery, Courtland. Public visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 26th, 2022, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes – Burial and Cremation Services Inc., Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg (519)842-4238. Knights of Columbus Prayers will be held on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, Tillsonburg by G.K. Richard DenDauw.
