Obituary

We the family sadly announce the sudden passing of our loved father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many, Anthony ‘Tony’ Francis Kersten, of Langton on September 1, 2020 at Brantford General Hospital, in his 83rd year. Born in Langton to the late Renier and Cornelia Kersten, Tony was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Langton. For many years he farmed alongside his much-loved wife of 60 years, Dianne A. (Coeman) Kersten. Tony could be described as a patient ‘hockey man’ and lifelong Boston Bruins Fan, he habitually attended his kids and grandkids’ hockey games- even if they were ‘just’ a practice or tryout. He was a 17-year volunteer with the Langton and Area Minor Hockey Association and a former Langton Lions Club member. An avid participant in Oldtimers Hockey, until the age of 68, he was a long-time atom, peewee and novice coach and a respected trainer with the Langton Thunderbirds. He also loved to golf with friends and family at Tillsonview Fairways.

Dearly missed by his loving wife Dianne Kersten, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Mark (Hilda) Kersten; of Woodstock and children: Christopher (Connie) (and their sons Camden and Link), Carly Kersten, Ashley (Kevin) Haycock (and their son Cameron), late son David Halashewski (2007); Kevin (Kathy) Kersten, of Courtland and their children Steffen and Sierra (Josh) LoFranco; Blair (Janice) Kersten, of Tillsonburg and their daughter Toni; David (Tina) Kersten, of Tillsonburg and their children Andrew, Reese and Mackenzie (Noah). Tony is survived by his siblings Robert Kersten (Barb) and Betty Pieters (Lucien), and by his in-laws MaryAnne Kersten and Walter Zamecnik. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and cousins. Predeceased by his daughter Karen (1967), by siblings: Sister Johanna Kersten (2009), Dina (late Henry) Vandommele (2015), Theo Kersten (2010), Mary Zamecnik (2011) and sister in law Dianne Kersten.

Friends and relatives are invited to offer their support and caring by sending flowers, posting photos, tributes, favourite memories, and hugs from home on Tony’s tribute page at the www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com. Due to COVID safety restrictions, public visitation will be LIMITED to ONLY guests that sign up for specific time to attend.
