Heye, Astrid Emelie (nee Van Damme) (April 24, 1937 – September 22, 2022):

It is with great sadness that our family announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and friend, Astrid Emelie (Van Damme) Heye, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, on September 22, 2022, at the age of 85. Astrid was born in Houghton Centre, to the late Alois Van Damme and Noella (Vuylsteke) Van Damme. Astrid was a resident of Hickory Hills, Tillsonburg, was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church and a 62-year dedicated member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Women’s League, Langton. Astrid is predeceased by her husband Alfons Heye (1991). Lovingly remembered by her daughter Mary-Lynn Heye, of Oakville and by her son Phil (wife Karen) Heye and their children: Alexander, Samuel, and Lauren, all of Upton, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Survived by her devoted sister Marie Van Damme, of Langton. She will also be dearly missed by her brother-in-law in Belgium, Andre (wife Marie-Louise) Heye. She is predeceased by her sisters-in-law in Belgium, Simone Stevens (late husband Albert) and Jeanne Van Aerde (late husband Jos), her cousin Rachel DeVos (late husband Joe, 2019) of Tillsonburg and the late José DePlancke (2016) and several nieces, nephews, and cousins in Belgium and Holland.

Astrid was a warm, loving person and wonderful mother and grandmother. She lived her life selflessly and was dedicated to supporting family and friends through her charitable life.

In keeping with Astrid’s expressed wishes, a public funeral mass to celebrate her life and faith will be held on Friday, September 30th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Tillsonburg, by Rev. Fr. Seejo John. Burial follows in Sacred Heart Cemetery, 24 Albert St., Langton. All funeral attendees are invited to attend a reception following the graveside committal, in the Langton Community Centre, 28 Albert St. There will be a public visitation on Thursday, September 29th, 2022, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Friday, September 30th from 9:30 - 10:30a.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg. The C.W.L. Prayers for the members of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s C.W.L. will be held on Thursday at 3:30p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Everyone who knew Astrid is invited to offer their support by sharing fond memories, favourite photos, sending flowers, or by contributing memorial donations to the “Sacred Heart Church or St. Mary’s Church- Bldg. Astrid’s family is very grateful for the exceptional care provided to her by the doctors, nurses, and PSW’s of the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital and specifically the Cardiac team and the Endocrinology team. We appreciate the many years of attentive care provided by all the management and personal support workers at MSC, the case manager at the SW LHIN (CCAC), and the doctors and nursing staff in Tillsonburg. In particular, Astrid appreciated the tremendous support provided by her daughter, Mary-Lynn as her dedicated caregiver and patient advocate.
