Obituary for Camiel "Cam" Sanders

Sanders, Camiel “Cam” M. (November 23, 1924 – June 2, 2021) –

Passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, Camiel “Cam” Sanders, at the age of 96. Born in Pervyse, West Flanders, Belgium on Nov. 23, 1924, son of the late Omer Sanders and the late Leontine (DeCoster) Sanders. Cam immigrated to Chatham, Ontario in 1927 and later settled in the Cultus area, then in the Langton area where he met and married his loving wife of 72 years, Dorothy (Deroo) Sanders (2019). Cherished and loving Dad of Bob (Doreen) Sanders, Pat (Bob) Hodges and Nancy Nowell. Loving grandfather of Bobbi Jo (Gary) Miller, David (Jodi) Hodges, Jennifer (Dorval) Sousa and Lisa Nowell (Jason Henderson). Very proud great-grandfather of Emerson and Claire Hodges, Taylor Sousa and Shiloh Henderson. Survived by his sisters-in-law Sheila Sanders and Gerarda Deroo. Predeceased by his brother George (2018), sister-in-law Angela (2015) and just recently, his brother Jerry (April 2021). Cam was a member of Sacred Heart Church, served on the Sacred Heart Cemetery Board and was also a member of the Langton Fair Board. A dedicated tobacco farmer for many years, after he retired Cam enjoyed golf, playing cards and casino trips. He will be remembered as a devoted family man whose greatest passion was his grandkids and great grandkids.

In keeping with Cam’s expressed wishes, a Private Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, June 7th, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, Langton by Rev. Father Ben Huyge. Regrettably, due to covid-related attendance restrictions, this will be a private family event at this time. Private interment will follow in Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery, Langton. Visitation (by RSVP) will be held in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc. Chapel, 40 Queen Street, Langton on Sunday, June 6th, 2021, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 7th, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. (service time). Family and friends may RSVP for time slots by calling the funeral home between 9am to 4pm (519)842-4238. In accordance with government-imposed restrictions, all events are restricted to 10 at all times. Visitors are encouraged to remain in their vehicles until their time slot begins. All guests are required to wear a face covering and are asked to practice social distancing.
