Obituary for Cynthia Helen "Cindy" Welton (Thomas)

Cynthia Helen Welton (nee Thomas)

On March 28th, after a long and heroic battle with pancreatic cancer, Cindy passed peacefully while her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, George, held her hand.

Predeceased by her parents (Bert and Ina) and sister, brother-in-law and niece (Linda, Jim and Kelly Armstrong).

She leaves behind her brother Howard (Laura) Thomas and much loved nephews, Christopher (Penny) and Alex (Ashley) Thomas and Jimmy Armstrong.

She was an adoring Aunt to her great nephew and nieces: Jack, Audrey, Ellie, Brittany, Alexis and Lauren.

Born in Montreal, Cindy grew up in Toronto (after a short stint in Fort Erie) where she attended high school in the west end. As a teenager, she had a deep love for the Beatles, The Dave Clark 5 and other great bands of the 60’s, that she watched on the Ed Sullivan Show. Little known to most, Cindy took an interest in playing the drums and often played along to the top hits of that decade.

In that same decade, Cindy met George, the love of her life, through their mutual friend Suzanne Park. They enjoyed a full life of family, friends, outings and travel. Their journeys took them to Europe, the Caribbean and South America, with Aruba always remaining her favourite.

Much loved by a wide circle of friends and family, Cindy enjoyed a long career in various accounting and finance positions in Toronto, before retiring and moving to Tillsonburg.

It was in Tillsonburg where Cindy and George met a brand new circle of friends and had a strong sense of community at Baldwin Place. She will be missed dearly by her many “gal pals” with whom she spent days lounging by the pool.

Cindy was full of love and adored by all those who met her, known especially for her good nature and heart-warming laugh.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kujawa, the extraordinary nursing staff and team of Tillsonburg District Hospital, in addition to Dr. Wynquist and the oncology team at London Health Sciences Hospital.

A private gathering to honour and celebrate Cindy’s life will take place at a future date.

Friends, neighbours and relatives are invited to offer their support by posting photos and condolences, making donations in memoriam, and sharing special memories on Cindy’s tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com. Memorial donations may be made to the “Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation” or to the “Salvation Army, Tillsonburg” on Cindy’s tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com.
