Obituary for Donald John Delorma Sykes
SYKES, Donald John Delorma (November 7, 1930 - March 10, 2022) -
It is with sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved father, grandfather, and friend to many, Donald John Delorma Sykes, on March 10th, 2022, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital with loving family at his side, in his 92nd year. Born in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, to his late parents John Franklin Sykes and Anna C. (Bowen) Sykes. Donald is predeceased by his wife of 55 wonderful years, Dora Marie Jean Sykes (2012). Survived by his caring children and grandchildren.
Donald worked at Livingston’s Industries as a plant electrician and later was a teacher at Glendale High School for 30 years. Donald was an Optimist Club Member, Ducks Unlimited supporter, and member of the former Brownsville United Church, then Avondale United Church.
In keeping with Don’s expressed wishes, a traditional funeral service was held on Saturday, March 12th, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg, by Pastor Ted Smith, of Courtland United Church. Public visitation was held on Saturday, March 12th, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A public graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 19th, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. by Pastor Ted Smith, at Tillsonburg Cemetery. All are invited to special memories, favourite photos, or contribute memorial donations in Don’s memory to the “Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital”, to the “Seeing Eye Organization” (c/o T8059 PO Box 8059 STNA Toronto, Ontario M5W 3W5), to the “Covenant House” (20 Gerrard Street East, Toronto, Ontario, M5B 2P3) or to “The War Amps”.
