Obituary for Florianne Charlebois

Florianne Charlebois (Chevrier)
March 20, 1934 – April 24, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Florianne (Flo) Charlebois. Surrounded at home by her cherished husband of 66 years and five daughters, Flo found peace after a rapid decline due to heart failure.

Flo was born in Hearst ON and worked for the Hudson's Bay Company as a teenager. Her tenacity was evident early on as she played hockey on the Hearst Lumber Queen's hockey team. Mom was also a master golfer and was very proud of her "hole in one".
Her love of babies and the elderly was fulfilled through working as a maternity nurse in Northern Ontario and private long-term care nurse in Nova Scotia.

She met the love of her life Louis in 1955 and married him in 1956 after a very short courtship. They had five girls whom she was so proud of and often bragged about. Our "supermom" was very committed to education and often boasted that she and dad had supported five daughters through university resulting in 10 degrees. She inspired us to be strong, independent, self-sufficient women (and even inspired some of our friends).

Although mom had a nursing background, she was an astute business woman having owned very successful businesses such as Toddlers to Teens Children's Wear in Acton ON, Colour Your World Paint and Wallpaper store in Saint John, NB and the Pine Cone Motel in Sussex, NB. She comes from a long line of entrepreneurs as her grandparents built and owned the Capitol Hotel in Hearst.

Flo was a caring wife and mother with a keen love for life and family. She is survived by her husband Louis-Marie, daughters Lyne (George), Josée (Hubert), Anne (Peter), Andrée (Alan) and Julie (Steve), grandchildren Annie (Darren), Marta (Craig), Mason, Rianna, Hannah (Steve), Meredith, Emma and great grandchildren Sophie and Sloane. She is also survived by her 3 sisters Vivianne, Claire (Harvey) and Cécile (Gerry). She is predeceased by granddaughter Céline, sisters Shirley and Liliane and her brother Fernand.

A Public Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 29th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. All attendees are invited to attend a reception after the Mass (beginning at 12:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m.), to be held at Baldwin Place Recreation Centre. All who knew Flo are welcomed to share favourite memories, photos or contribute memorial donations to the “Heart and Stroke Foundation” or to the “Alzheimer Society” via Flo’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by contacting the Maurice J.
