HELMER, Gary Wayne (1955 – 2022)

It is with sad and heavy hearts, we the Helmer family announce the peaceful passing of Gary Wayne Helmer on Monday, April 18th, 2022, at University Hospital in London. Beloved and devoted husband to Lou Ann for 47 years. Loving father to Jennifer Clark (John) and Jeremy Helmer (Dawn Wilson). Proud Grandfather of Karsen Clark (Bella Vaz). Cherished brother to Darlene McIntyre and Sandy Starling (Derryl). Caring brother-in-law to Bette Millard and Elenore Helmer. Fun loving uncle to Kevin, Kalvin, Korey Helmer and families, Tammy, Dwayne, Owen McIntyre and families, and Missy Gould and Shelly Wiebe and their families. Predeceased by his parents George ‘’Pokey’’ Helmer (1993) and Dorothy Helmer (2011), Brother Robert ‘’Bob’’ Helmer (1985), Brother-in-laws Wayne McIntyre (1990) and Robert Lewis (1990). In addition to his love for his family and friends, Gary’s passions included snowmobiling, classic cars, motorcycles, hunting, fishing and baseball. Known to many at the ball diamond as ‘’Grandpa Gary’’, his giant personality and embellished stories touched the hearts of all who knew him.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Chu and his medical team, the kidney and heart specialists teams and the wonderful nurses in ICU for their loving care.

Public visitation will take place on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes - Burial and Cremation Services Inc., Chapel, 40 Queen Street, Langton (519) 842-4238. The Helmer family requests that everyone please bring and wear their mask. Public Funeral Service to Celebrate Gary’s Life to be conducted by Rev. Ted Smith, of Courtland United Church on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022, at 1:00 pm in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, Langton. Interment follows in the Helmer family plot at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Walsingham.
