Obituary for George Friedrich

Our family is sad to announce the passing of our much loved husband, father, proud and loving “Oppie,” brother, uncle and friend to many George Friedrich, at Oakcrossing Long Term Care, London, on Friday, August 21st, 2020, formerly a long-time resident of Camden Court, Tillsonburg in his 86th year. Born in Boszok, Hungary, son of the late Balthazar Friedrich and the late Eva (Wizthaler) Friedrich. George will be remembered for his friendly, good-hearted, upbeat personality and his skillful painting and decorating skills as proprietor of George Friedrich Decorating Centre, Tillsonburg from 1960 to 1997. George and Betty were faithful, ardent members of the Courtland United Church for many years. Much loved father of George A. Friedrich, of Vancouver, B.C.; Mary Beth (Steve Burt), of London; and Cindy (David Wood), of Georgetown. Dear “Oppie” of Lela, Amelia, Colin, and Aaron. Survived by a sister Theresa Kelle, of Tillsonburg and the late Bruno, and by many nieces, nephews and cousins in the USA and Canada. Predeceased by two sisters Mary (late Frank Hader); Gisela (late Andreas Bettler) and by three brothers: John Friedrich (late Anna); Joe Friedrich (late Margot); Balthazar Friedrich (late Mary).

In keeping with George’s expressed wishes, cremation will take place. A Private Family Memorial Service to honour George's Life to be conducted in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway Street, Tillsonburg by Pastor Ted Smith, of the Courtland United Church. Interment to follow in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. Celebration of Life is planned for a later date, with details to be announced in the future.
