Obituary for George Henry Jonckheere

Jonckheere, George Henry (October 30, 1933 – February 6, 2022) –

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, George Henry Jonckheere, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, on February 6th, 2022, at the age of 88. Born in Middleton, to the late Cyriel and late Hilda (Dedeere) Jonckheere. For many years, George farmed tobacco alongside his late wife and family at Jonckheere Farms Ltd., RR5 Langton. In his spare time, George was an active member with the former Vienna Lions Club and member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #524, Port Burwell. All-American Trapshooting was a chosen passion for George, and he was proud to establish and operate “Hemlock Explorations” for several years (gas well exploration). George is predeceased by his much-loved wife of 55 wonderful years, Alison Jane (nee Sutherland) Jonckheere (Dec. 16, 2011). Always a caring father to Jeanne Jonckheere, of Tillsonburg, and Michael (Margaret) Jonckheere of RR5, Langton. Proud grandfather of Alison, Bradley (Bekah), Amber (Keith) and great-grandfather of Lydia, Raven, Phoenix, Alaska. Survived by a special friend Margaret Esseltine, of London. Special uncle to Irene, Dorothy, and caring brother to Agnes Nagy (late Joe); Maurice Jonckheere (late Joan).

In keeping with George’s expressed wishes, a public funeral service will be held on Friday, February 11th, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg, officiated by Pastor Ted Smith, of Cultus United Church. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, February 10th, 2022, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, Tillsonburg. Friends, neighbours, and relatives are encouraged to sign up for a timeslot to attend the funeral service or visitation via George’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com (please click the blue RSVP button to sign up). All attendees must wear a face mask and are asked to maintain social distancing guidelines. Interment follows the funeral service in the Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery, Port Burwell. Memorial donations to the “V.O.N. Oxford” (for Sakura House) or to the charity of your choice would be gratefully acknowledged by the family and can be made through the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc., Tillsonburg (519-842-4238), entrusted with all arrangements.
