It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of our loved father, grandfather, brother-in-law and uncle, Gerald (“Richard”) Codling of Woodstock and formerly of Langton in his 74th year. Passed away, suddenly, but peacefully, as the result of natural causes, on Thursday, June 25th, 2020 at his late Woodstock residence. Much loved father of: Kelly Codling, London; Lindsay Codling, Toronto. Proud and loving grandfather of Tyler and Nicholas. Survived by a sister-in-law Alma Codling of Langton and the late Peter Codling (November 2, 2011) and uncle to Danny and Sandra. Predeceased by his parents: Lloyd Codling and Jean (Brandow) Codling, a brother Howard Codling (2013), and nephew 'Howie' (2020). Richard was a dedicated quality control supervisor for over 20 years at CAMI, Ingersoll, retiring in 2016. He graduated from Delhi Secondary School in 1966. He was a member of the “Woodstock Unit 95 Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada”. Richard was a force to be reckoned with in darts, billiards and cards throughout his life. He also participated in many of these tournaments at the Woodstock ANAVETS #95 and formerly at the Royal Canadian Legion, Beachville. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, golf and in his earlier years he was on many baseball teams playing catcher.
In light of COVID-19 restrictions, a scheduled visitation will take place on Monday, June 29th from 4pm-6pm, and visitors need to wear a mask and preregister with the funeral home in advance. Please know there is a limitation on how may guests can attend both the visitation and funeral, so please ensure you connect with the funeral home by phone in advance as soon as possible. Preregistered attendance Funeral Service to Celebrate Richard’s life will be conducted by Pastor Charles Mayo of the Houghton First Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 30th at 2pm. Both services will be conducted at the MAURICE J. VERHOEVE FUNERAL HOMES – BURIAL AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., Chapel, 40 Queen Street, Langton. Interment follows in the Codling family plot, Langton Baptist Cemetery.
