Passed away, peacefully, surrounded by loving family members, at the Delhi Long Term Care Centre, on August 1st, 2020, Hilda (Smithers) Chatten, formerly of Tillsonburg and Straffordville, at the age of 88. Hilda was born in Byfleet, Surrey, England to the late George and Esther Smithers. She is predeceased by her husband Arthur “Ronald” Chatten (June 4, 2001). Hilda’s lasting legacy are her three loving children: Dawn Chatten, of Tillsonburg; Christopher (Cathy) Chatten, of Tillsonburg; Jane (Robert) Townsend, of Cultus; five much loved grandchildren: Mark (Emily), Ashleigh (Andrew), Stephanie (Derek), Carol, John; and four special great-grandchildren: Malcolm, Liliana, Ana-Sophia, Archer. Survived by her sister Joan Johnson, of England and by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her brother George Smithers (late wife Margaret), and by brother-in-law Len Johnson.

Each person attending must be listed as a guest. Guests must wear face masks and maintain social distancing rules. Guests are asked not to attend if they are ill, if they have been around someone else who is ill or have travelled. Guests are encouraged to attend only when their time slot begins, if guests arrive too early, they are asked to wait in their vehicle. If guests arrive too late, they may be unable to enter. In keeping with Hilda’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Hilda’s Life and Legacy will take place on Friday, August 7th, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., in the MAURICE J. VERHOEVE FUNERAL HOMES- BURIAL AND CREMATION SERVICES INC. Chapel, 262 Broadway Street, Tillsonburg by Rev. Fr. Osita Oluigbo, of St. John’s Anglican Church. Public visitation will take place on Friday between 1:30 and 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the “Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada” would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes, Tillsonburg, entrusted with all funeral arrangements, with confidence.
