Obituary for Irene Veronica Zahorak (Bota)
ZAHORAK, Irene Veronica (May 15, 1930 – November 18, 2022) -
Welcomed into the Arms of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 18th, 2022, at Norview Lodge, Simcoe, Irene Veronica (Bota) Zahorak, formerly a resident of Tillsonburg, in her 93rd year. Born in Port Colborne, daughter of the late Steve Bota and the late former Elizabeth (Barta) Bota. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Joseph (Joe) Zahorak (June 15th, 2010). Predeceased by her much-loved sister Elizabeth Matthys (2011) and her late husband Willy Matthys (2009) and an infant brother Steven Bota. Irene is survived by cousins in the Delhi and Tillsonburg areas and a special caregiver and Goddaughter Ilona Virag & family, of Tillsonburg.
Irene was a proud member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church and the St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League. She loved singing with the choir at both St. Mary’s and St. Ladislaus R.C. Church, Courtland. Irene enjoyed baking, especially torts and walnut cakes, cooking, and canning fruits and vegetables. Joe and Irene retired from farming tobacco in the late 1970s.
Friends, neighbours, and relatives are invited to attend a public visitation, to be held on Monday, November 21st, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc. Chapel, 262 Broadway St., Tillsonburg. Parish Vigil Prayers will take place on Monday in the chapel, at 5:45 p.m. A Private Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022, at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 51 Venison St. W., Tillsonburg, by Rev. Fr. Seejo John. Interment follows in St. Ladislaus R.C. Cemetery, Courtland.
