Obituary for James Allan Thornton

Peacefully entered into God’s Rest and God’s peace and presence, at the Victoria Hospital, London, after a courageous struggle with medical concerns, James Allan Thornton, a resident of Tillsonburg, since 1980 formerly of Hamilton, in his 64th year. Well-liked member of Tillsonburg Community Living who worked at the former Arcwood Acres Farm, Arc Industries, and McDonald’s, Tillsonburg. Jim loved his friends: Derby, Mary, Bill, Sandy, Peter and liked getting together with them whenever he could. Also part of Jim’s legacy was his love of sports as an enthusiastic Blue Jays fan he enjoyed the former Tillsonburg Day that saw up to 36 Buses go from Tillsonburg. Jim was always proud to be a part of that event with his fellow Community Living friends. Jim loved the sports of football, hockey and baseball and kept running written journals about their scores and standings from day to day. Jim is survived by a brother Terry in Niagara Falls, a brother Dan in London and a cousin Linda McLean in Tillsonburg.

Friends are welcome to gather to celebrate his life on Monday, August 26th from 12:30 to 1 pm at the MAURICE J. VERHOEVE FUNERAL HOMES – BURIAL AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 262 Broadway St., Tillsonburg. Funeral Service to celebrate Jim’s life and legacy to be conducted on Monday, August 26th at 1 pm in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Nancy Shiels of Salvation Army, Tillsonburg. Inurnment follows in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. Memorial Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Tillsonburg Community Living by cheque at the funeral home or online through the verhoevefuneralhomes.com website.
