Obituary for Jozsef ("Joe") Bognar

BOGNAR, Jozsef (Joe) (January 1, 1932- September 29, 2022) -

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jozsef (“Joe”) Bognar. Surrounded at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital by his cherished spouse of 65 wonderful years and two children, Joe found peace in the Arms of His Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Joe was born in Ada, Yugoslavia, to the late Jozsef and Erzsébet (nee Gyarmat) Bognar. Joe was a proud member of the former St. Ladislaus R.C. Church, Courtland, where for many years was a dedicated acolyte. More recently, he attended St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Tillsonburg and Joe was a Life Member of the St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus, Council 3212. Joe was also for many years involved with the Delhi Hungarian Hall as a Director and volunteered his time to numerous events at the Hall. Joe is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 65 wonderful years, Margaret (nee Benak) Bognar, of Tillsonburg. Always a dedicated father and proud grandfather to his son Joe Bognar Jr. (Beth), of Guelph, and their 3 children: Stephanie (Dustin) Foxman (their son Bentley), of Guelph, Christopher (Kayla) Bognar, of Cambridge (their son Lucas), Jessica Bognar (Dane Nespoli), of New York, U.S.A. Always a caring father and proud grandfather to his daughter Valerie (Emile) Buranyi, of Tillsonburg and their 2 children: Michael Buranyi (Nada Marjanovic), of Strathroy, Kevin Buranyi, of Tillsonburg. Joe is survived by his brother Karoly (Erzsébet) Bognar, of Serbia, by his sister-in-law Matilda Bognar (late Steve), as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his brother Bill Bognar (late Pearl) and late sister Erzsébet Pesznyak (late Lajos).

In keeping with Joe’s expressed wishes, a Public Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, October 7th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 51 Venison St. W., under the care of Rev. Fr. Seejo John, supported by (Joe’s God Son), Rev. Fr. Bela Pesznyak, of Serbia. Burial follows in St. Ladislaus R.C. Cemetery, Courtland. Friends, neighbours, and relatives are invited to attend a public visitation on either Thursday, October 6th, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. or on Friday, October 7th, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg. All Knights of Columbus Members are invited to attend a Knights of Columbus Prayer Service, led by Tillsonburg Council 3212 on Thursday, October 6th at 5:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
