Obituary for Lucien Van Damme

VAN DAMME, Lucien Sr. (February 20, 1936 – December 3, 2021) –

Passed away, peacefully, on December 3rd, 2021, Lucien Van Damme, of Metcalfe Gardens, St. Thomas and formerly a longtime resident of Walsingham, at the age of 85. Survived by his son Lucien Van Damme Jr. and family, by his sister Lucienna Demeulenaere and family, as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lucien was predeceased by four siblings: Julienne Kerr, Georgette Richards, Marcella Demeulenaere, Frank Van Damme and by his parents Norbert and Margaretha (nee Saman) Van Damme. Lucien enjoyed agriculture; in his younger years, he primed tobacco and for a time was employed with Superior Propane. Lucien raised many prized peacocks and exotic birds at his former Walsingham residence. He took great pride in his garden and enjoyed sharing the bounty with friends and neighbours.

In keeping with Lucien’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place. A later private graveside service to Celebrate Lucien’s Life will take place in the Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery, Langton. His wishes were for his urn to be buried with his late mother, whom he cared for deeply. Friends, relatives, and former neighbours are welcomed to offer their support and care by sharing special memories, posting photos or by contributing memorial donations to the charity of their choice via Lucien’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com, or by contacting the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc., 40 Queen Street, Langton (519)842-4238, which has been entrusted with all arrangements, with confidence.

“Special thanks to Roxane Wilson, a caring personal support worker and friend to Lucien over recent years. Your considerate care and compassion did not go unnoticed and is sincerely appreciated.”
