Obituary for M. Rose Knowles

Margaret ‘Rose’ Knowles entered her Lord’s presence on Tuesday, August 6, 2019. Except for short periods of time in Toronto, when she attended Toronto Bible College, she has lived in the Tillsonburg and Eden area for her entire life.
After graduating from London Teacher’s College in 1967 she spent most of her teaching career as an elementary teacher-librarian at Straffordville Public School. In 1977 she graduated with a B.A. from Western University. As a member of North Broadway Baptist Church for more than sixty years, she served in many positions.

Rose, born in Middleton Township, Norfolk County, 1926, was the elder daughter of Harold and Violet (Green) Mannell who predeceased her in 1970 and 1980, respectively. She was predeceased (2010) by Ralph John Knowles, her husband of more than sixty years. Surviving are one son, Paul Knowles, Baden, and three daughters: Beth Lee, Springford; Karen Simms (Ephraim), St. Anthony, NL; and Dianne Knowles, Gagetown, NB. She is also mourned by daughter-in-law Nancy Knowles. Rose is survived by a sister, Ruth (Lloyd Hurley) and sisters-in-law Florence Mannell, Gladys Mannell, and Joan Knowles. Three siblings have predeceased her: Lillian Mannell (1929), Russell Mannell (2007) and Donald Mannell (2016) and, also, son-in-law, Owen Rose, and daughter-in-law, Mary Knowles. She was also predeceased by sisters in law Jean Church and Gladys Tisdale, and brothers-in-law Tom, Clark, Gordon, Bill and Ray Knowles.Her grandchildren are Luke Knowles, Aaron Lewis, Angela and Kimberly Rose, Holly Peril, and step-grandchildren, Emily and Benjamin Riche (Rebecca). Her great-grandchildren are Kael Knowles and Liam and Nora Riche.

In her later years Rose lived at Tillsonburg’s Harvest Retirement Community where she was involved in many activities.
Visitation hours are 12:30-2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, at North Broadway Baptist Church, Tillsonburg. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, at North Broadway Baptist Church, followed by a reception at the church. Interment in Eden Cemetery will follow the reception. In memory of Rose, donations can be made to the “Alzheimer Society Oxford,” “Teen Challenge,” or “Gideons International.” All funeral arrangements are being carried out by the Maurice J.
