It is with great sadness, we the family announce the passing of our much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, Margaret Anne (Burnett) Shepherd, on Sunday, April 18th, 2021 at her late Courtland residence, at the age of 87. A lifelong resident in Courtland, Margaret will be remembered for her 30 plus years as a dedicated secretary with George Burnett Trucking Limited, where she worked alongside her late husband of 60 wonderful years, “Sandy” Hugh Alexander Shepherd (April 14, 2019). In her younger years, she was employed with Fernlea Flowers. Always a proud fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, she enjoyed watching baseball, hockey, gardening and making her famous pies. Family was the center of her world and she cherished family gatherings and Sunday suppers. Even more so, she loved her role as a dedicated grandma and great grandma. Margaret will be dearly missed by her children: Tyke (John), Cathy (Norm), Fred (Linda), Sandra, John, Ted, and Barney. Caring grandma, mema to Jennie (Jay), Mandy (Mike), Kate (Cory), Samantha (Kyle), Cody, Brodie, Brooke (Simon), Haley and proud great grandma to Maggie, Mason, Hunter, Kaydn, Cole, Owen, Elijah, and Ezekiel. Survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Margaret is predeceased by all 6 of her siblings and by her parents George Burnett and Nellie (Massecar) Burnett.
In keeping with Margaret’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends, neighbors, and relatives are invited to offer their support and care by posting photos and condolences, making donations in memoriam, and by sharing special memories on Margaret’s tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com. A Graveside Service to Honour Margaret’s Life will be held on Friday, July 9th, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. in the Courtland Baptist Cemetery, by Rev. Ted Smith, of Courtland United Church.. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be contributed to the “Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario” or to the “Courtland Firefighters Association” via Margaret’s tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or through the Maurice J.
