Obituary for Mary Albertine Platteau (Plasschaert)

PLATTEAU, Mary Albertine (Plasschaert) (January 31, 1932 – July 5, 2022)

With heavy hearts, mom slipped away to be with dad. Mary Albertine (nee Plasschaert) Platteau passed away at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on July 5th, 2022, at the age of 90. Mary was born in Chatham, Ontario to the late Edmond and Celina Plasschaert. Predeceased by her much-loved husband, Urbain (‘Ben’) (October 6, 1996). Mary was a warm-hearted woman, tender in her feelings, but made of strong stuff. She was a true ‘people person’ and loved her many years as a waitress, volunteering for the School Breakfast Program and always looked forward to helping at St. Mary’s, either with Society of Saint Vincent de Paul dinners or by making pies for the annual St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League fundraisers. She leaves behind her much-loved daughter Patricia (Pat) Duwyn and her “favourite son-in-law” Dennis, along with cherished grandchildren Kevin Duwyn (Sandra), Karen McBay (Dave), and Kris Duwyn. She always looked forward to seeing her great-grandchildren Taylor, Julie, April, Nolan, and Aidan. Survived by her twin sister Alice Kosynski, of Delhi and family. Predeceased by her sister Irene Verhoeve (Sept 6, 1999). Also lovingly remembered by nieces, nephews (and spanning all the way to great-great-great nieces and nephews).

“Thank you to the caring team at Tillsonburg Retirement Centre. Even though she wasn’t with them for long, they made her feel welcome. Thanks to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital staff for easing mom’s way. Thank you to Renie Lefebvre for always thinking of her ‘Aunt Mary’.”
