Obituary for Mildred Kavka (Gray)

KAVKA, Mildred (nee Gray) (February 5, 1934 – October 18, 2021)-

We the Kavka family wish to announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Mildred (nee Gray) Kavka, on Monday, October 18th, 2021, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, with loving family by her side. Born in Kinston, North Carolina, U.S.A., to the late William Thomas Gray and the late Leorah (nee Smith) Gray. Predeceased by her much loved husband, John Kavka (January 11, 2007). Always a loving mother to her children Maria Kavka, of Courtland and George (Marilyn) Kavka, of Norwich. Beloved grandmother and great-grandmother to Devon (Sarah) Kavka; Katrina Kavka (and her child Asher); Zachary Kavka. Survived by two sisters Ruth Clark (late Eddy) and Frances Carter (husband Ronnie). Also survived by a brother-in-law Marko (wife Dragi), and by two sisters-in-law Betka, Rezka (husband Franc), all of Europe, as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by all three of her brothers and by six sisters. Mildred was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Tillsonburg. Mildred will be remembered as a strong problem solver, with a very practical worldview. For many years, she farmed alongside her late husband John, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, and spending quality time with her adored grandchildren and very greatly loved great grandchild.

In keeping with Mildred’s expressed wishes, a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 26th, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 51 Venison Street West, Tillsonburg, by Rev. Fr. Ben Huyge. Burial follows in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. Friends, neighbours, and relatives are invited to attend a time of public visitation, which will be held on Monday, October 25th, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, Tillsonburg. All guests must pre-register for an available time slot via Mildred’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by calling the funeral home between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In keeping with Ontario Government Regulations, all attendees must wear a face covering and are asked to maintain social distancing guidelines. All who knew Mildred are welcomed to offer their support and care by sharing special memories, posting photos, sending flowers, or by contributing memorial donations to the “St. Mary’s R.C.
