Obituary for Robert John Sergeant

SERGEANT, Robert John (October 7, 1930 – January 3, 2022) –

Passed away, at his home, in Tillsonburg, Robert John Sergeant surrounded by the love of family members in his 92nd year. Born in Northern Ireland son of Lewis Sergeant and Minnie (Richardson) Sergeant. Dedicated member of the St. John’s Anglican Church, Tillsonburg. Life member of the Orange Lodge. Robert will be remembered as a dedicated employee of Mastico (Autoneum), Tillsonburg 1969 – 1995. He loved the outdoors and walking the trails around Tillsonburg. Predeceased by his much loved wife of 46 years Fay (Cupples) Sergeant (June 26, 2003). Loved father of: Judy DeGroote (George Utting), Tillsonburg; John Sergeant (Rhonda), Tillsonburg; Carolyn (Randy Boughner), Tillsonburg; and Richard Sergeant, Tillsonburg. Proud and loving grandfather of: Diana Ashford, Terri DeGroote (Mike), Brian DeGroote, Lisa Boughner (Jenny), Tanya Basom (Tao), Jennifer Boughner, Tyler Sergeant (Carly), Kelly DeGroote (Nick), Adam Mayo (Miranda), and Kyle Mayo (Morgan) and proud great-grandfather of twenty great-grandchildren. Predeceased by a daughter (Laurie) (2008), and a grandson Christopher DeGroote (1981), and also predeceased by three sisters: Winnifred Watts and Margaret (Madge) Kennedy and May Sergeant and a special uncle Sam Sergeant and his wife Hester.

In celebration of Robert’s life well lived, friends, neighbours, and relatives are invited to attend a public visitation on Thursday, January 6th, 2022, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes – Burial and Cremation Services Inc. Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg. A Funeral Service to Celebrate Robert’s Life and Legacy will take place on Friday, January 7th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Verhoeve Funeral Home Chapel, Tillsonburg, by Pastor Osita Oluigbo, of St. John’s Anglican Church. Interment follows in the Tillsonburg Cemetery.
