MAES, Roger J. (March 7, 1929 – July 2, 2022) –
It is with great sadness that we the family wish to announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Roger J. Maes, of Courtland and formerly of Tillsonburg, on July 2, 2022, at the age of 93. Born in Eernegem, W.F., Belgium, to the late Cesar Maes and late Emiley (Tyvaert) Maes. Roger was a retired tobacco farmer and maintenance worker at Glendale High School, Tillsonburg. Roger was a long-time member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Tillsonburg. Much loved husband of 74 wonderful years to Maria (Decroix) Maes, of Courtland. Dear father and father-in-law of: Jenny (George) Van Damme, of Tillsonburg; Edna (John Hollywood), of Renfrew, ON. Proud grandfather to Dennis Van Damme, Kimberly Van Damme, Paul Gelothier and Joseph Mirth. Special great-grandfather to Max and Reese, predeceased by his much-loved great-granddaughter Teagan (2009). Survived by his brother Urbain (Simonne) Maes, Belgium and by his brother-in-law Marcel Quaegebeur (late Lillian), of Belgium. Also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In keeping with Roger’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family funeral liturgy of Christian burial to celebrate Roger’s life will be held in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc. Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg, by Rev. Fr. Thomas Kuriacko. Interment follows in the Tillsonburg Cemetery Columbarium Wall.
