Obituary for Roomet Selberg

Passed away peacefully, with his loving wife Ingrid by his side, on Wednesday, December 30th, 2020 at Woodingford Lodge, Ingersoll, Roomet Selberg, a former Tillsonburg resident, at the age of 80. Roomet was born in Estonia, to the late Osvald Selberg and to the late Viiu (Putting) Selberg. At a young age in 1944, he with his family fled to Sweden during World War Two. In the mid 1950’s, they immigrated to Canada. In 1960, while vacationing in Sweden, Roomet met the love of his life, Ingrid (Peterson) Selberg, whom he married in 1961 and they shared 59 wonderful years together. Roomet will be remembered by many coworkers at Loblaws, where he worked as a manager in the GTA for many years before retiring in 2004. Roomet had a passion for travelling, he loved to spend time outdoors with his family, camping, canoeing, and hiking. Roomet is survived by his four much-loved and caring sons and their partners, Raul (Terry), of Toronto; Ron (Patti), of Edmonton, Alberta and Patti's children; Roland (Sandra), Toronto and their daughter Eve; René (Tara), of Belle River. Survived by his brother Raul (Phyllis), of Waterloo and by his half-siblings: Ellen (Art), of Ottawa; Aive, Urve, Egge of Estonia. Also survived by his brother-in-law Lennart, of Sweden, sister-in-law Marianne (Sten), of Sweden and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his half-sister Milvi of Estonia.

Due to COVID-19-related attendance restrictions, the Memorial Service to Celebrate Roomet’s Life will be by invitation only at this time and will be officiated by Chaplain Tina Dias. All are invited to attend virtually via a livestream on Thursday, January 7th, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.

Inurnment will take place in the Tillsonburg Cemetery Columbarium in Spring 2021. Memorial donations in memory of Roomet to the “Alzheimer Society of Oxford” can be made through the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc., Tillsonburg (519-842-4238), which has been entrusted with all arrangements, with confidence.
