Obituary for Rose Smith (Budai)

Passed away, peacefully after a long and well lived life, on January 17th, 2020 at Caressant Care On Bonnie Place in St. Thomas, Rose (Budai) Smith, in her 105th year. Born in Minto, New Brunswick to the late Alexander Budai and late Rose (Pandak) Budai. In 1912, Alec and Rose Budai left Hungary and went to England to get on the Titanic, but it was full, so they came to Canada on a cattle boat. Former resident of Glen Meyer and Mabees Corners.

Predeceased by her husband of 56 years Clifford Charles Smith (1995). Survived by her children: Clara (George Wall), of Woodstock; Robert ‘Bob’ (Marie) Smith, of Tillsonburg; Larry Smith (Trudy Wice), of Tillsonburg; Doug (Linda), of St. Thomas; and Shirley (Gerald Smith), of St. Thomas. Also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and a nephew. Predeceased by her daughter Marilyn Hicks (late Duane), by a sister Margaret (Ben Vandendriessche, of Sudbury) and by one granddaughter.

In keeping with Rose’s wishes, direct burial has taken place on January 18th, 2020 in the Tillsonburg Cemetery, under the auspices of Rev. Maurice Francis, of St. Paul’s United Church. All arrangements have been entrusted, with confidence, to the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc., 262 Broadway Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-4238).
