Obituary for Sidonie Leona Damme (Van Eeghem)
DAMME, Sidonie Leona (Van Eeghem) (October 5, 1917 – May 10, 2022) –
Passed away, peacefully, after a long and well lived life, Sidonie Leona (Van Eeghem) Damme, at Woodingford Lodge, on Tuesday, May 10th, 2022, in her 105th year. Sidonie was a resident of Tillsonburg since 1973, formerly of Lynedoch, where she farmed tobacco with her husband late Cyriel A. Damme (March 16, 1989). Born in Duzele, West Flanders, Belgium, to the late Frans Van Eeghem and late former Leona Marreyt. Sidonie was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Tillsonburg and Life Member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League. Sidonie is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and their families in Belgium and Canada. Sidonie is predeceased by her siblings: Julia (1972), Margaret (1976), Mary (1978), Augusta (1998), Josephine (1999), Cyriel (1932), Gustaf (1979), Maurice (1990), Louis (2000), and George.
In keeping with Sidonie’s expressed wishes, a public Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 16th, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Tillsonburg, by Rev. Fr. Tony Del Ciancio. Interment follows in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. Public visitation will take place on Saturday, May 14th, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg. All Catholic Women’s League members are invited to attend a CWL Rosary on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
