Obituary for Stanley A. "Stan" Grabstas

Born and lifelong resident of Tillsonburg, in his 86th year. Beloved husband and best friend of 65 years to his wife Marie. Dear father of retired Lt.Col Stanley A.F. Grabstas (Vivian), of Ottawa; Dr. Konstancija (Konni) A. M. deGoeij, of Ardrossan, Alberta and Mark E.J. Grabstas, of London. Much loved son of the late Tony Grabstas (1976) and Paliute Grabstas (Vaicuekonia) (1977). Dear brother of John Grabstas (Juanita), of Tillsonburg. Much loved grandfather of Nicholas Grabstas, of Ottawa, Katherine Harris (Colin), of Toronto, and Maile N. M. deGoeij, of Ardrossan, Alberta. Also survived by several nieces, and nephews.

Stan was well known in and around Tillsonburg during his time as a Real Estate salesman with Sanders Real Estate (30 Years). He was a Past President and Director of the Tillsonburg Real Estate Board and was recipient of the Tillsonburg and District Real Estate Board’s President’s Award in 1999. He was also a Hairdresser (Colonial House of Hair Fashions) for many years. He is remembered for his many acts of kindness and his contributions to various organizations. He was an avid golfer, fisherman & card player. Lifelong member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Past Grand Knight of Council 3212 (1965), Past Faithful Navigator (1980) and Charter Member of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Fr. Mike Dalton Assembly, Delhi (1977). Past Director of Town of Tillsonburg Non-Profit Housing Corp. (1988). Past President and Honourary Life member of the Tillsonburg Tri-County Agricultural Society (Fair Board), Past Sport’s Office and Director, Tillsonburg Legion, Zone Sport’s Officer, Zone B2, going to provincial tournaments for euchre and cribbage. Past Director of the Tillsonburg & District Gold Course, Past Chairman, Tillsonburg Arthritis Fundraising Drive, Past President of the Haldimand-Norfolk Progressive Conservative Assoc. and past executive member of the Oxford Progressive Conservative Assoc., Past President and founding member of the Tillsonburg Industrial Management Club, Executive Vice-President of Tillsonburg Jr. Chamber of Commerce. Served as an assistant coach with minor baseball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and youth 5 pin bowling. Bowled 5 pin for the Men’s League, Inter-County, and Inter-City for man years. Recipient of the Town of Tillsonburg Volunteer Service to the Community Award in 1998.

In keeping with Stan’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place. A Private Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was Celebrated on June 4th, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Tillsonburg, by Rev. Fr. Thomas Kuriacko. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the “Heart and Stroke Foundation”, “Canadian Cancer Society”, “St. Mary’s R.C.
