Obituary for Stella Helena Loncke (Petillion)

Passed away, peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on December 5th, 2019, Stella Helena (Petillion) Loncke, in her 90th year. Born in Manitoba, daughter of the late Jules Petillion and the late Irma (Claerebout) Petillion.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Albert J. Loncke. Much loved mother and mother-in-law of Jane Marie Loncke (Ivan Spasic). Cherished “Grandmo” of Alexa Helena. Survived by her dear twin sister Irene Spohn (predeceased by her brother-in-law Joseph and nephew Wayne). Fondly remembered as “Tante Stella” by her many nieces and nephews and will be missed by her many cousins and friends across Canada and in Belgium.

Stella and Albert were proud tobacco farmers for many years at South Middleton, and together planned and enjoyed family gatherings, dancing, and the summertime farm visits with their nieces and nephews. Always a supporter and companion of her daughter Jane, “Mom” accompanied the local basketball team to games near and far, hosted many special occasion events, travelled across Canada, USA and Europe, and was extremely proud of her daughter’s career, awards and accomplishments. Stella enjoyed many activities throughout her life including doing needlework, crocheting, playing cards and bingo, maintaining her “immaculate” properties, cheering on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Pittsburgh Penguins, and of course staying connected with family and to the weather, world events and the music of André Rieu via her iPad. Her granddaughter Alexa Helena was the “light and love of her life” and the times they spent together in Tillsonburg have provided Alexa with special memories of her “Grandmo” for a lifetime. Stella was active in her church and community. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and a Life Member of, and volunteer with the CWL for over sixty years. Stella co-led the Jolly Makers for a number of years and also was an Outreach Ministry Team Member.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to all those relatives, friends and neighbours who have been supportive to Stella throughout her life, and to her and her family during this challenging time. The family appreciates the compassionate care and caring that they received at London Health Sciences, St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (Integrated Stroke Unit) and the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. A special thanks to Drs. Abdulla and Caperchione, and the Pastoral Team of St. Mary’s Parish.
