Obituary for Sylvia Ida Diagre (De Weerdt)

DIAGRE, Sylvia Ida (September 5, 1923 – April 15, 2022)

Passed away, in Norwich, Walnut Grove Retirement Residence and formerly of Tillsonburg and Mount Elgin, Sylvia Ida (De Weerdt) Diagre in her 99th year. Born in Zulte, W.F., Belgium, Sylvia and Edward and the Diagre family immigrated to Canada in 1961 and settled in the Dresden area to begin a new life with a lot of promise here in Canada. Sylvia lived a long and satisfying life filled with 45 years with the love of her life her husband Edward (predeceased her April 1, 1993) and family. Much loved mother of: Jenny and Frank Landuyt, Dresden; Christine Vanderheide, London; Nadine and Raymond Bunko, Sarnia; and Michel and Debra Diagre, Mossley. Proud and loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by a much-loved daughter and son-in-law Jeannine Vermeersch (2020) and Joel Vermeersch (2020); and her parents: Cyriel De Weerdt and Marie (Meerschman) De Weerdt.

Sylvia frequently attended Our Lady of Martyrs R.C. Church, Delhi and was a Delhi Catholic Women’s League member with her daughter Jeannine and previously attended St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Tillsonburg and St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League. Sylvia will also be remembered as fond of knitting. She was frequently knitting things for her family such as slippers, dish cloths, hats, etc. Everyone has been left with treasured items made by mom, grandma, great-grandma.

Public visitation will take place on Thursday, April 21st, 2022, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes - Burial and Cremation Services Inc., Chapel, 262 Broadway Street, Tillsonburg. THE DIAGRE FAMILY REQUESTS THAT EVERYONE BRING AND WEAR THEIR MASK. Public Funeral Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Friday, April 22nd, 2022, at 10:00 am in St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 51 Venison St. West, Tillsonburg by Rev. Father Thomas Kuriacko. Interment follows in the Tillsonburg Cemetery.
