Obituary for Thelma Marion Turnbull (Coates)

Passed away, surrounded by loving family, at her home on April 4th, 2020, Thelma Marion (Coates) Turnbull, in her 86th year. Born October 4th, 1934 in the township of Bury, Quebec to the late Carlos Coates and former Martha Forbes. Thelma was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Alan Wilfred Turnbull (January 15th, 2010). Family was everything to Thelma, she treasured each family get-together and every special moment. For her, family is what made life special. She will be greatly missed by her children: Richard (Lisa) Turnbull, of North Port, Florida, U.S.A; Janie Smith, of Guelph; Elaine Turnbull, of Toronto; and Gwendolyn (Ronald Deelstra), of Aylmer. Proud and loving grandmother to Nicholas (Sabrina), Tyler (Marjorie) and Andrew Smith; Alexander and Lydia Deelstra; Alissa and Samantha Urich. Loving great-grandmother to Shane Baliog, Kennedy and Paityn Smith. Survived by two sisters Lila Girouard (late Raymond), of Ottawa; Inez Dutton (late Roy), of Quebec. Predeceased by three brothers Howard Coates (survived by wife Leona); Edgar Coates (late Thelma); Russell Coates; and by her sister Agnes Lister (late Norman).

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, a private funeral service will take place in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc. Chapel, 262 Broadway Street, Tillsonburg by Pastor Janet Anstead, of Mapleton Church of Christ (Disciples), in Aylmer. A private interment will take place on Tuesday, April 7th, 2020 in the Turnbull family plot in the Springford Cemetery.

On Thelma’s tribute page, family and friends are also invited to share their favourite photos, memories, condolences, send flowers or make memorial donations in honour of Thelma to the “Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation,” or to any charity of your choice through the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes (519-842-4238), which has been entrusted with all funeral arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date with details to be announced in the future.
