Obituary for Thomas Robert Bent Vermont

Passed away, peacefully, at the Hardy Terrace Long Term Care, Brantford, on February 23rd, 2020. Thomas Robert Bent Vermont, formerly of Port Burwell, in his 91st year. Born in Trelawny, Jamaica to the late Alfred Vermont and late Ethyl (Wiggan) Vermont. In Jamaica, Thomas was a Justice of the Peace and a former Captain in the Jamaican National Reserve until immigrating to Canada in 1974 with his late wife Kathleen ‘Grace’ Vermont (May 23, 2017). Thomas was a true entrepreneur - over his working years he ran his own surveying, construction, land development, hotel, farming, and bobcat rental businesses. Former member of the Rotary Club of Shelburne and a former vice-president of the Rotary Club in Jamaica. Proud father of his sons: late Michael Vermont (2019) (late Primrose); Peter Vermont (2019) (surviving wife Kathleen), of Fielding, New Brunswick; Howard Vermont (Annabel), of Bolivia and formerly of Port Burwell. Special grandfather to 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Survived by his sister Eva, of British Columbia and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Graveside Service will take place on Saturday, February 29th, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at Vienna Community Centre, 26 Fulton St, Vienna, ON N0J 1Z0. Burial follows immediately in the St. Luke's Anglican Cemetery, 6596 Plank Rd, Vienna. Memorial donations in Thomas’ memory to the “Alzheimer Society – Oxford” would be gratefully acknowledged by the Vermont family and can be made through the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc., 262 Broadway Street, Tillsonburg, which has been entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
