Obituary for Vida Louise Brooke (Collins)
Passed away, suddenly but peacefully, on Monday, June 29th, 2020 at the Harvest Crossing Retirement Community, Vida Louise (Collins) Brooke, of Tillsonburg and formerly of Merlin, at the age of 81. Vida was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland to the late Heber Collins and the late Elizabeth Collins. Vida will be fondly remembered for her 20 years of dedication as a school bus driver and for her 40 years as a rural mail carrier with Canada Post, a position which she retired from in 2011. Vida can be described as a ‘card shark,’ who especially enjoyed playing Euchre. She is a supporter of the Salvation Army Church. Predeceased by her loving husband of 50 wonderful years Albert Brooke (July 8, 2012). Vida will be dearly missed by her three sons and their families: Kevin (Cindy) Brooke, of Tillsonburg and their children Nicole and Ryan (Ailish) and Vida’s special great-granddaughter Addelyn; Dale Brooke (Cindy Atkinson), of Salford and children Adam and Tyler; Jeff Brooke (Ed Hedge), of Windsor and Jeff’s children Paige and Victoria, also missed by their mother Melissa Brooke. Vida is predeceased by all ten of her siblings: Dorothy Marriott, Joyce Houlbrook, Frazer Collins, Norman Collins, Shirley Babin, Rita Graham, Brenda Latour, Lena Collins, Heber Collins, and Myrtle Collins.

In keeping with Vida’s expressed wishes, a Complete Private Family Funeral Service will take place in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes – Burial and Cremation Services Inc. Chapel, 262 Broadway Street, by Captain Nancy Sheils, of the Salvation Army Tillsonburg Community Church. Cremation follows, with later inurnment in the Merlin Cemetery, in Merlin, ON. Friends and relatives are invited to offer their support by sending flowers, posting photos, tributes and hugs from home on Vida’s tribute page at verhoevefuneralhomes.com. Memorial donations to the “Canadian Diabetes Association,” to the “Salvation Army Tillsonburg Community Church,” or to the “Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 465” (in Merlin, Ontario) can be made through the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes, Tillsonburg (519-842-4238), entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
There will be a Celebration of Vida’s Life at a later date for her family and many friends, with details to be announced in the future.
