Staff members of Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc. are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff.

Maurice Verhoeve

Licensed Funeral Director - Class One, Owner

From the age of ten, Maurice assisted his father in various ways around the funeral home. Upon graduating from Annandale High School as an Ontario Scholar, Maurice pursued his Funeral Director’s education at Humber College, graduating in 1982 with honours and having achieved the highest mark in two courses of significance. Maurice was mentored by his late father, Hector D. Verhoeve, who had high standards of funeral service that he strictly upheld. Maurice has been proudly a licensed funeral director for thirty-seven years, who, along with his father, has served four generations of area families. In 2016, Maurice became the new owner of Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes-Burial and Cremation Services Inc., continuing to make every effort to treat others in the same way he would want to be treated. Maurice takes pride in being an active, community-minded individual, as a member of both the Knights of Columbus and the Tillsonburg Lions Club. Maurice and his wife, Margaret, have three children, and also love spending time with their four young grandchildren.

Margaret Verhoeve

 Office Administrator

Margaret is the friendly face in the funeral home office. Wife to Maurice for almost 30 years, together they have three children and four young grandchildren. Margaret is a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League and many people will also recognize Margaret from her years of dedicated service at various restaurants in Tillsonburg and Courtland. In 2018, Margaret joined the family business. She enjoys greeting people with her friendly smile and through her care and attention to detail, she works to ensure each person that comes into the funeral home is well cared for. Margaret is a committed grandmother to Robert's children Lucas and Eleanor and Sandy's children Sage and Scarlett. She enjoys sharing experiences with the grandkids, by going on day-trips to the beach, theme parks, etc.

Robert Verhoeve

Licensed Funeral Director - Class One
*Managing Funeral Director, Tillsonburg Establishment

Robert began to work alongside both his grandfather and father in 2010. A graduate of the University of Guelph with distinction, Robert holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Criminal Justice & Public Policy and Sociology. In September 2017, Robert began his formal education at Humber College, in Etobicoke to become a fully licensed Ontario Funeral Director - Class One (with embalming). Graduating in June 2019, Robert is the Managing Funeral Director of the Tillsonburg establishment.

Robert and his wife Kaitlynn make every effort to create lasting memories with their children, Lucas (8) and Eleanor (4). Robert is an avid volunteer and head basketball coach with Special Olympics, Tillsonburg, member of the Knights of Columbus (Council 3212, Assembly 3854), member of the Langton Lions Club, and serves on the Community Living Tillsonburg Board of Directors. In his spare time, Robert enjoys playing senior men's baseball with the “Tillsonburg Red Sox” and playing in various golf and slo-pitch fundraising tournaments. He enjoys coaching Lucas' baseball team, as well as expanding his ever-growing gardens and attempting new home improvement projects, often with the help of his neighbour Paul.

Krystyna Verhoeve

Licensed Funeral Director - Class One

Maurice's youngest daughter, Krystyna, graduated from St. Mary's High School in 2017 and has decided to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather, father and brother. In September 2017, Krystyna began her formal education at Humber College (Etobicoke Campus) to become a fully licensed Ontario Funeral Director - Class One (with embalming). Having graduated in 2019, Krystyna is now an active, fully licensed Funeral Director. In 2020, she decided to further her education with Fanshawe College, graduating with distinction, she also holds a certificate in the Personal Support Worker Program.

Krystyna is exceptionally family-oriented, helping anyone that asks, in any way that she can be of assistance. Krystyna is a volunteer with Special Olympics Ontario, Tillsonburg, member of St. Mary's Church Catholic Women's League, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #153 Ladies' Auxiliary. Krystyna is a lifelong learner. You can see her from place to place at both funeral homes, always ensuring that the properties look their very best.

Don Holbrook

Funeral Director Assistant

Don Holbrook has been a facet of the Langton-area community for many years, serving as a volunteer firefighter with the Norfolk County Fire Station 7 (Langton), since February 2, 1980. More recently, Don was named District Fire Chief. Don is also a past member of the Langton Lions Club and he can often be found assisting anyone and everyone that needs a helping hand. Don retired from a dedicated 39-year career with Superior Propane in 2020 and promptly joined the Verhoeve Funeral Home team.

Don is happily married to his wife Carrie and he is a true family man, proud father and grandfather. He enjoys fishing and boating, often in the Owen Sound-area, with his friends and family throughout the summer months. He also enjoys riding his Harley Davidson.

Janice Buchner

Organist

Janice was born and raised on a tobacco farm south of Tillsonburg.
After retiring, following a 35 year teaching career in various Oxford County schools, she has pursued her hobbies, of reading, golfing and gardening at her home in Corinth.
Janice is a member and organist of Peace Lutheran Church in Tillsonburg. She is also a member of the Lutheran Church Women’s organization and serves at her home church and on various boards and committees at the Ontario District and National level.
